About the Program:
The North Chicago VAMC pharmacy processes over 2,000 prescriptions daily. Many of these prescriptions are filled by the Central Mailout Pharmacy (CMOP). Prescriptions may be refilled by phone, mail, or the internet.
Services Offered:
1. Automated Refill System:
An automated refill system is available by telephone for all North Chicago VAMC patients. In order to use this service, you will need:
- A touch-tone telephone.
- Your full social security number.
- Your Prescription number.
When ordering your refills by telephone, you must order them at least 14 to 21 days before you need your medications to ensure prompt processing and delivery time.
- Step 1: Dial (Toll Free) 1-800-393-0865. Listen closely. The voice prompts will guide you.
- Step 2: Press 5 for Prescription and Appointment Information
- Step 3: Press 1 to Refill Prescription by Phone.
- Step 4: Enter your FULL social security number (all 9 numbers) followed by the # key.
- Step 5: Enter the correct Prescription Number (without the letter at the end of the number) followed by the # key.
- Step 6: Hang up the phone. You’re done!
2. Mail:
You may request your refills by mail. Mail in your refill forms at least 14-21 days before you need your medications to ensure prompt processing and delivery time.
- Step 1: Check to make sure your mailing address information is correct.
- Step 2: Attach adequate postage and mail to:

You will receive your medications through the mail in approximately 5 to 7 days. If you do not receive them after 10 days, please contact the Outpatient Pharmacy at 1-800-393-0865.
3. Internet Refill:
Prescriptions may also be filled online
using VA's My
HealtheVet program. You will need a user id
and password to log in. If you do not have one, you can
easily get one by
creating your personal profile.
4. Refills at the North Chicago VAMC Pharmacy:
Same as prototype, but add the following:
You may drop off your refill requests at the Outpatient Pharmacy Window at least 14-21 days before you need your medications. All refills will be mailed to your address on file.

Outpatient Pharmacy
Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Inpatient Pharmacy (hospitalized patients and evening/weekend Emergency Department patients only):
Open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
Pharmacy Administration Office
Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
All of the above services, except for the Inpatient Pharmacy, are closed on all Federal holidays.
